Lima, Peru, August 20, 2010 – Young players in South American Volleyball are preparing to go into action next week as some of the top teams on the continent get ready to dispute the 17th edition of the Girl’s South American Championship.
The cities of Tacna and Tarapoto in Peru will host the preliminary round of the competition while Lima will host the semifinals and final. Eight teams will fight for the title and qualification to the 2011 FIVB World Championship, set to be played between July and August in Turkey next year. Only the two best placed teams will qualify.
Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Bolivia are in Group A in Tarapoto while Peru, Paraguay, Venezuela and Chile make up Group B in Tacna. Brazil and Bolivia will play in the opening match ahead of Argentina and Colombia. Elsewhere, Venezuela play Chile and Peru face Paraguay.

The Brazilian team is the current South America and World Champions. Their last
victory was in 2008, in Peru. Brazil has a history of achievements in the world of Volleyball. With three world titles (1997, 2005 and 2009) and 13 South American titles overall they will be seen as the favourites.
